Valley of the Kings

Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings is located on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor, containing many tombs of Egyptian Pharaohs from New Kingdom such as famous Pharaohs like Tutankhamun , Horemheb and Ramesses.

[ Valley of the Kings in Yu Gi Oh ]

In Yu Gi Oh, it seems that one of Pharaoh Atem's tomb is also in the Valley of the Kings. Mutou Sugoroku travelled to Egypt in 1960 to face the ultimate game kept inside the tomb. Then he could clear all traps in the tomb and finally got a millennium puzzle from there.

Luxor Temple

Luxor Temple

The temple of Luxor was the center of the many important festivals celebrated in Thebes. Built by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, it was suitable for the rituals of the festival, which reconciled the human aspect of the ruler with the divine office. Also, it is the complex temple that is divided into various areas: courtyard, temples, Obelisk, hall, etc.

[ Luxor Temple in Yu Gi Oh ]

It seems that the temple complex of Luxor is another main theme in Yu Gi Oh which represents various zones of the royal palace.

Luxor Temple - Avenue of the Sphinxes

Avenue of the Sphinxes

This avenue leads to Luxor Temple about 1.2 miles/2 kilometers south of Karnak Temple. These sphinxes are in form of body lion with the head of Nectanebo I (380-363 B.C.E.). Anyway, they were rebuilt in the fourth of century B.C.E. to replase the ruined New Kingdom sphinxes.

In Yu Gi Oh, this avenue becomes the entrance or courtyard of the royal palace.

Luxor Temple - Statues

Statues

Two colossal seated statues flank the entrance pylon of of Luxor Temple. Their size are around 46 feet/14 meters in height for each. Ramessess II (C.1279-1213 B.C.E) wears the royal nemes headdress topped by the Double Crown of upper and lower Egypt.

In Yu Gi Oh, these two statues are set up behind avenue of the sphnixes at the entrance of the royal palace.

Luxor Temple - Inner Courtyard

Inner Courtyard

This courtyard was built by Amenhotep III in the 14th century B.C. This inner courtyard led to the back chambers of the temple complex, where priests mysteriously united the king with his divine essence (Ka).

Construction design of Inner Courtyard at the Luxor temple is adapted to be courtyard inside the royal palace in Yu Gi Oh.

Luxor Temple - Obelisk of Thutmos I

Obelisk

Obelisk of Thutmos I (C.1493-1479) is the last of four obelisks which originally located on the front of the 4th Pylon. It was the entrance into Karnak Temple at the Luxor temple complex. The Obelisk is 71 feet/21.7 meters in height on a base of 6 feet/1.8 meters square, and weighs about 143 tons. Each side of it consists of three vertical lines of inscription, the central one dedicated by Thutmos I.

Besides used as the name of god in Yu Gi Oh, Obelisk is designed as construction parts of the royal palace.
