Although Yu Gi Oh is a game card story, the original battle of this game occurred 3,000 years ago in Egypt. At that time, Yami Yugi, ancient Pharaoh, fought against darkness and sacrificed himself to seal it with his soul in a millennium puzzle. 3,000 years later, little Yugi could solve the millennium puzzle, so Yami Yugi could express himself and shares the body with little Yugi. Yet, Yami Yugi loses all of his memory as Pharaoh and even his real name that is a key to open the gate to the world of death.

When Yami Yugi can gather three god cards, it is time to recover his memory. His past is going to be rerun and all secrets about Pharaoh and his six priests are going to be revealed in this Pharaoh's memory series. In order to write this story, the creator, Kazuki Takahashi, travelled around Egypt to gather information for his story. Many places in Yu Gi Oh refer to the real places in Egypt such as Valley of the Kings or Giza.
