[ A
Christmas Friend ]
Story By Miyoko Saymono
[ Chapter 1: A New
Student ]
A boy with golden blond hair with hazel brown
eyes, watched broadly as snow swirled outside the windows of
Domino High School, as 16-year old Joey Wheeler ignored all
of what they were going to learn again, but this was casual
for him, for he never really did pay attention in his classes.
He sighed and wished he was outside in the newly fallen snow,
enjoying winter. But that was impossible because he was stuck
in a stupid school where he would learn nothing. ‘What’s the
point of this’, he thought, ‘it’s not fair that we have to learn
all this crap. I don’t have the mind of Seto Kaiba for crying
out loud…I hate Mondays…the beginning of another week in school.’
Joey yawned as the school bell rang and as the students began
to file in the classroom followed by Ms.Chono, their math teacher.
A spiky red, black, and yellow hair boy came next to him. The
kid looked up at Joey with purple eyes; the reason why he was
look up was because he was the shortest kid in the whole entire
high school. To everyone else he looked like he was still in
grade school. His name was Yugi Mouto, Joey’s best friend.
“Morning’ Yugi,” called Joey happily.
“Hey Joey,” he said with the same happy attitude,” guess what
I heard? There’s a new student coming today!”
“Really?” he said, his eyes showing excitement.
Yugi nodded,”Yeah! I wonder who it is.”
“I guess we’ll find out soon,” Joey said as the school bell
rang for a second time.
After everyone was seated in their desks, and when Ms.Chono
had finished taking role, he started to speak. “Today, we have
a new student joining us,” she walked over to the door and let
in a girl with untidy nutmeg brown hair, with deep dark blue
eyes, and was wearing the boys school uniform instead of the
girls, slowly walked in.
Ms.Chono smiled at her but did not get a return greeting. The
girl was sadly staring at the tile on the floor. Joey stared
at the girls face, something had caused him to look at, and
what he stared at was a long thin scar under her right eye.
‘I wonder how she got that’, he thought. He soon had the feeling
that she was staring at him as well. He looked away quickly,
and then looked at the chalkboard where Ms.Chono had finished
writing the girls name. ‘W-What the-‘, he thought as he stared
at the name, ‘No way. How can there be another Kaiba?!’ For
the name on the chalkboard was ‘Sakura Kaiba’.
[ Chapter 2: Sakura
Kaiba ]
“Class, say ‘hello’ to Sakura Kaiba,” Ms.Chono
said happily. None of the class said a word; they were just
staring in disbelief at her. After a long silence Ms.Chono pointed
to an empty chair next to Joey and Sakura moved to desk silently.
They all watched her, and then their attentions were snapped
to the front of the class as their teacher began to write out
the assignments.
Sakura rested her bag to the side and brought out her math book,
she opened it, turned it to the assigned page and slowly started
to do her work along with the rest of the class.
No one could help staring at Sakura; Joey couldn’t take his
eyes off her. ‘Another Kaiba…just great,’ he thought as he watched
her quietly, ‘I thought there was only two!’
‘Why are they staring at me? Why they must they wonder why three
Kaibas exist instead of two? ‘, Sakura thought as she felt their
gaze upon her. She sighed and looked at the boy named Joey,
next to her. ‘He’s… he’s cute…, she thought, …no way…no way
would he want to go out with me…I’m just a-‘, Sakura was brought
back into realty as the school bell rang. The class slowly flied
out of the classroom. Joey slowly stood up and yawed broadly,
and walked out of the room leaving Sakura still sitting at her
desk. She slowly stood up and walked out of the class into the
bustling hallway.
In almost all of his classes, Joey saw Sakura in them. At lunch,
he decided to talk to Yugi and the gang about it.
“So you say she’s a Kaiba?” asked Tristan, a tall kid with a
brown spike for hair.
“Bemh!” said Joey through a mouthful of hamburger.
“In English please if you don’t mind?” asked Tea, a girl with
brown hair and was wearing a pink vest with a blue skirt which
was the girls school uniform.
Joey scarfed down what he was eating and then said, “Yeah! She
had brown hair, blue eyes and something you couldn’t miss, a
scar under her right eye.”
“That doesn’t prove anything Joey.” said Tristan.
“Yeah.” echoed Yugi.
“Hey, how bout’ we all meet at that new skating rink, and we’ll
talk about it there after school.” said Joey.
“Okay!” they all echoed, not knowing that someone was watching
them.
