[ Yu-Gi-Oh! The Millennium Scriptures ]
Story By Angel of Devotion

[ Chapter 1: The New Beginning ]

Anzu felt a sudden pain in her chest. As the young man who she have fallen in love with slowly walked towards the bright light, she reached out her hands as hot tears flow down her cheeks, “I don’t understand… I just don’t.” She watched painfully, knowing that she will never see him again. Anzu fell onto her knees and cried. Her heart was suffering from an eternal pain and she knew it would be a long time for her to recover and become the lively, honest and expressive Anzu. “Please come back!!!!”

Anzu woke up from her dream and found herself in her neat, cozy bedroom. She wiped off her tears from her eyes quickly. It has been 6 months ever since Yugi defeated Atem in the ceremonial battle and Atem had gone back to his ancient world where his people have been waiting for him. On that moment when Atem had to leave all his friends behind, everyone was in pain, for all the time, Atem had become part of their lives, part of their friendship and had been together through the good and tough times. The friendship between Atem, Yugi, Anzu, Jyoonouchi, and Honda was stronger and stronger as time goes by, and the admiration and devotion that Anzu has for Atem increases. Anzu began to fall in love with Atem on that day when she was blindfolded in the Burgerworld and the Yami-Yugi saves her by giving the criminal a game punishment. Even though she had never told Atem her feelings she has for him, she knew that it is better for her not to reveal anything, she knew that one day, and Atem will be gone. Before she knew it, Atem had left them behind the light, and she will never get to meet him again.

Anzu wore her school uniform and looked at the calendar on the wall. In three days time, she would have an audition which will be the first step for her dreams of being a dancer in America. She always loves dancing and it was the only thing she could do to forget her sorrow. When she dances, she feels that the world around her goes so pure and calm and as she moves her body, the breeze that touches her skin seems to take away all the pain from her heart. Once she stops dancing, the feelings of sadness come back to her. She shook her head and look into the mirror, “You can’t let your sorrow stop you from fulfilling your dreams!”

Anzu walked out from her house and thought of what she could do to overcome this pain. “Anzu! Anzu!” a cheerful voice called to her. She turned back and was surprised to see the cheerful, little Yugi running up towards her with a pleasant smile he always wore on his face. Yugi was growing up, and even though he looked very much like Atem, Yugi has bigger eyes full of forgiveness and sympathy, while Atem’s eyes are more confident and determined.

“Anzu, I am waiting for you!” Yugi said, “I… was….hmm…. Anzu, I…”
“Yes, what is it, Yugi?”
“There is a new fun park in town! Hmm.. I am just wondering if you could join me this…. Weekend, but if you’re not…”
“I’ll come, Yugi. I promise. Thanks for inviting me,” Anzu smiled sweetly, “I remembered the good old times when both of us went to the fun park together and Jyoonouchi and Honda are spying on both of us. I was really mad at Jyoonouchi at that time, but you know, he is the kind of friend who everyone wants. Even though he is clumsy and reckless….”
“Hey!” a voice called.
Anzu and Yugi quickly turned back and saw moving shadows behind the tree. “Yes, as I said Yugi, Jyoonouchi can’t even keep his emotions. Both of you can come out now. I am too old to play hide and seek.”
Jyoonouchi and Honda appeared behind the big tree and smiled, “How did you know we were there, hiding?”
“Guys, how can I not know? Jyoonouchi can’t be able to stay still for just one minute,” Anzu rolled her eyes and laughed, “Come on, guys, lets go! School will start soon!”

The four friends were chatting all along as they entered Domino High School, one of the greatest high schools in Domino City. “Let’s challenge who to be the first to reach school!” Jyoonouchi challenged the others.
“Oh god, Jyoounouchi, don’t you have better things to do? Like practice more on dueling or stuff like that?” Honda sighed.
“Okay, let’s go, Jyoonouchi!” Yugi said happily and ran along with Jyoonouchi. “I’ll take your challenge.”
Anzu smiled and turned to Honda, “Yugi is such a nice friend. We are lucky to have him as a friend,”
“He is, Anzu. That’s why he hurts so much when the other Yugi have to leave. I could tell you, that he is still very lonely,” Honda said. “I know you are affected by this too. Everyone is, Anzu, but if we keep thinking about this sadness when we have to part, it will never go away. Think of the good times we all have.”
Anzu smiled at the optimistic that Honda has, she guessed Honda was right after all. Honda is always a good friend and always stands up whenever bad thing happens. Both Honda and Jyoonouchi are very sincere and that is the reason why Yugi and she could get along with them so well for a long period of time.
“Yugi! I am going to beat you!” Jyoonouchi laughed as he was only a few steps away from the entrance of school. Unfortunately, a luxury car nearly hit him and he fell backwards onto the ground.
“Jyoonouchi!” Yugi yelled and quickly run over to check out his friend. “Are you alright? Are you hurt?” Seeing that incident, Honda and Anzu also rushed over to their friend .

Jyoonouchi was furious at the drive and kicked the door of the luxury car. “Don’t you know how to drive?” To his surprise, Kaiba Seto walked out of the car and looked at Jyoonouchi; Kaiba ignored him and walked into the entrance of the school.
“Don’t you know how to say Sorry!” Jyoonouchi yelled and kicked the car once again. This time, Jyoonouchi fell onto the ground and groaned in pain. “My feet! Kaiba, I am going to get you for this! Ouch…”
“Jyoonouchi, I guess Kaiba wins this race after all,” Anzu said. “Come on, get up. We don’t want to be late on the first day of school.”

“Good morning class, I will start by calling the attendance….” The teacher said.
Anzu looked through her journal and stopped at the page where she wrote about the fiery dance battle against Johnny. Yami-Yugi was there, watching her dance and she managed to win against Johnny. Anzu had a great time spending with Yami-Yugi and she was glad that he finally found who he was. That was a very nice “hang-out” with him but she don’t consider it as a date. Anzu turned over to the next few pages and stopped at the pages when she wrote in Pharaoh’s memory. She could not have imagined that Yami-Yugi was actually the young pharaoh and it was a great adventure to spend in the pharoah’s memory. Yugi or pharaoh, Anzu still has strong feelings for him.

“Mazaki Anzu…” The teacher replied, “Mazaki Anzu!”
“Anzu!” Yugi tapped Anzu, “It’s your name!”
“What?”
“Your attendance, Anzu..” Yugi whispered.
“Oh! Yes. Present!” Anzu said quickly.
“Are you well, Mazaki?” the teacher asked.
“Yes, I am.”
“Then pay more attention in class.”

Yugi looked at Anzu and felt her sorrow that reflects in her blue eyes. Anzu had been acting this way for six months and whenever she is alone, she will totally be lost in her thoughts and grief remains in her eyes. Yugi understands how hard it is for her to accept that one of her greatest friend, Atem is gone. Yugi himself can hardly accept that his partner and he will never meet again. For all those times they had spent together, Yugi truly wants his other self to come back, but he cannot be selfish. He understands that spirits have their own place to go and this is a good ending for Atem even though it hurts every friend. He had been lonely for all the time when Atem is not around, but he is indeed very lucky to have other friends to keep him strong. Strong, yes, it is Atem taught him how to be strong.

“We have a new student today. Let’s welcome her, Hikari Psyche Michi.” The teacher announced.
A girl with red-orange hair entered the room. She has the height of Yugi, small and slender, with bright blue eyes. She wore a very pleasant smile and bowed in front of the class. “Hi, I am Hikari Psyche Michi. A pleasure to meet all of you.”
“There is a seat next to Mr. Kaiba. You may sit there, Michi,” The teacher said.
“Thank you,” Michi said as she walked over to the empty seat next to Kaiba. When she saw Kaiba, she dropped all of her belonging on the ground. Michi quickly gathered up things in her bag and apologized several times before seating.
Kaiba saw a card lying on the ground and suspected it belongs to this new girl who might be a duelist as well. He wanted know her skills; perhaps she is just a random duelist like others who do not have the great ability of a true duelist. Kaiba picked the card up and handed the card to Michi, “I believe it’s yours. Are you a duelist?”
Michi shook her head and said, “No, this card is given to me by a precious friend from the past. Thank you, I can’t imagine what would happen if I lost this card…”
“Egyptian Warrior Girl. A ultimate rare card. It’s a waste for a good card like this to be kept without using it,” Kaiba said, “I am Kaiba Seto, Nice to meet you.”
Michi thanked again and took the card from Kaiba. Kaiba felt something strange about this girl. “Why would she keep her seven-star card aside when this card has such high abilities?” Kaiba thought silently.

Across the room, Jyoonouchi and Honda glanced at the new girl and gossiped about her, “That girl is strange. She dropped all of her things when she saw Kaiba. I think she has to know Kaiba somewhere before. Maybe.., maybe Kaiba is her great enemy or something!” Jyoonouchi whispered to Honda.
“I don’t think so. Jyoonouchi, can you stop talking. I am taking notes!” Honda whispered back.
“I saw Kaiba picking up her card just now. Maybe the new girl is a duelist too. I wonder what kind of deck she uses,” Jyoonouchi continued, “If she is a duelist, I would love to duel with her. Maybe she is a good duelist too, but I never seen her in any tournaments before. I wonder who she really is…”
“Jyoonouchi! If you have something to say to Honda, would you like to say it out to the whole class?” the teacher threw a chalk over to Jyoonouchi.
Jyoonouchi scratched his head and stop talking. “Keep investigating, Detective Jyoonouchi,” Anzu teased. Jyoonouchi stick out his tongue to Anzu and turned to the other direction. He took a look at Michi again and still, he find something strange about the girl, but he couldn’t figure out what it is. Yugi, on the other hand is eager to make friends with her. He, as usual, hopes that she likes to play games too, so he could have another game partner.

During break, the girls set their groups and began to gossip, while the boys went to play basketball. The other boys wanted Kaiba to play basketball with them, but Kaiba refused and walked out of the class, ignoring them. “He is so cold. Colder than his former self..” Michi thought to herself.
“Hi, Michi!” A gentle voice called.
Michi looked up and saw a pretty, brown hair, blue eyes girl with three other boys behind her. “I’m Anzu. These are my friends, Yugi, Jyoonouchi and Honda. Nice to meet you, Michi,”
“Nice to meet you, Anzu, Yugi, Jyoonouchi and Honda,” Michi smiled sweetly.
“Would you like to tour around the high school. We would take you around, since you are new here,” Anzu said.
“Oh, thank you” Michi said and followed her new friends.
*********************************************************************

“So,. Michi, where are you from?” Jyoonouchi asked.
Before Michi could answer, she saw the image of where she came from, who she is and what she is doing here. “I was born here but I grew up in Greece,” Michi answered, “It is so good to be back in this city again. I love this place,”
“Greece! Oh god I heard there are a lot of good duelists there!” Jyoonouchi exclaimed.
“Good? I daresay they can’t beat the legendary world’s best duelist like Yugi,” Michi said.
Yugi blushed and scratched his ear, “I…”
“People are crazy about you over there. They wanted to just like Yugi and trust me, in every single tournament in Greece, everyone wanted to win, so they can come to Domino City and challenge with you,” Michi laughed.
“Do they know Yugi’s friend? Jyoonouchi? Do they, do they?” Jyoonouchi asked. “The godfather of games!”
“Oh god, Jyoonouchi!” Honda sighed.
“There he goes again….he knows the answer well hurt him…”Anzu added and a sweat drop appeared at the back of her head.
“It’s doesn’t matter if they know you or not, Jyoonouchi. But I know if a duelist managed to enter the finals in the Battle City, he would definitely have great skills,” Michi said.
Jyoonouchi’s eyes sparkled brightly and laughed, “I have been praised!”
Anzu and Honda shook their heads and sighed the same time.
“Are you a duelist too?” Yugi asked.
“No, Yugi. I am not. Kaiba asked me that question too when he saw my card lying on the ground. It is just a gift my precious friend gave it to me.” Michi answered and showed the card to Yugi, “It is a card that means a lot to me.”
“This is indeed a very rare card. It has a great history behind it!” Yugi exclaimed. “If this card is very precious, I think you should keep it very well. I am not sure if you will be able to find another one!”

Michi smiled and felt happy that she finally made some friends. The five of them walked around the school and the boys went to but drinks for the girls. Anzu and Michi sat under the tree and glazed into the sky the same time.
“Why do they want the card?” Jyoonouchi said as walked towards the girls.
“What card?” Anzu asked.
“Well, recently, archaeologists found a tomb which wrote out scriptures that it was said to be a magical spell to free those ancient duelist from a shadow game. It is the only spell that could free those poor people,” Honda said. “It is called the Millennium Scriptures”
“This card was then given away to an unknown person after many people died while creating that card and those who held that card are under the curse as well. Only a very strong soul could get hold of that card,” Yugi added. “The boys over there in the cafeteria wanted to find the owner of that card, so they could challenge him and get that rare card,”
“Didn’t you just say the card is cursed? Why do they want it anyway?” Anzu asked.
“No one knows how they could work in duels too. But what legends said that there is an evil necromancer who duel with their opponents and if he loses, he would trapped the winners in his pyramid and the scriptures, that was lost for thousands of years, will be the spell to free those trapped souls,” Yugi replied.
“It is weird, isn’t it? That necromancer trapped the one who wins him so he could be the master…” Jyoonouchi said.
“Have anyone been trapped by this evil guy?” Honda asked.
“I don’t know but it is another shadow game,” Yugi said. “And a shadow game which you have to be defeated or not you will be a trapped soul, but if you have the Millennium Scriptures I think you will be able to trap his evil magic.”

Michi listened to the conversation and knew at once, that if this news of the scriptures is being spread out, people wanted that card. And if any disciples of the necromancer knew where the card was, they will hunt for it and destroy it, so the great master of duel monster would not have to return. Michi knew Yugi will be in great danger. He is another master of Duel Monsters which the necromancer desires to destroy. Michi didn’t want the history to repeat once again and she is not going to run away from it.
“Michi…. Hello… Earth to Michi!” Jyoonouchi called.
“Oh… I’m sorry. I was… hmm totally lost just now…”
“Well, it’s time for class let’s go,” Anzu said as the five walked into the class.
