episode 179 summarized by Janime

Judai successfully beats Darkness and makes the world return to normal. He looks relieved as everything has finally ended. At the same time, Sho, Kenzan, Asuka, and Manjoume are calling and running towards him. Rei then jumps over him. Johan and Fubuki are currently carrying Fujiwara and looking at Judai from the other side. Everybody is happy to see Judai again. The spirit of Teacher Daitokuji is flying and watching people around before Pharaoh jumps over and consumes it back to its stomach.

In the graduation day, all students are together in a conference hall. Professor Chronos is announcing to open the graduation ceremony. First, he is going to announce the final result of the graduation duel (See the rule of the graduation duel in episode 168). Everyone wonders who is going to be the top. Professor Chronos looks at result paper in his hand and begins to cry out loud. He doesn't want to announce it to make this end.

Principal Samejima calls Professor Chronos since this is not right not to continue the graduation duel. Professor Chronos is dancing around and saying that he doesn't want this graduation ceremony to occur. Teacher Kabayama, Teacher Ayukawa, and Tome have no choice and have to help one another to carry Professor Chronos out of the room. Without Professor Chronos, Principal Samejima steps up to do this announcement by himself.

He first declares the top 3, and they are Sho, Asuka, and Manjoume. Sho and Asuka look surprised, but Manjoume looks certain that he must be in the top. 3 of them step onto the stage. Principal Samejima thinks that this is a problem because there is only one reward, Yugi's replica deck. Sho, Asuka, and Manjoume surprise Principal Samejima by saying that they would like to give up the prize.

Principal Samejima doubts whether three of them are serious about this. Yugi's deck is supposed to be the strongest known deck in the world. Manjoume explains that the strongest deck for a person is the one that the person endears at most. Asuka and Sho add that it has to be a person's own deck full of memories. Actually, they have just learned this from Judai's past duel with Darkness: a card starts from nothing and becomes precious when a person uses it and fills it with duel memories. Principal Samejima understands their feeling well, so he will give up this reward and continue the graduation ceremony by farewell speech of a student representative, Kenzan.

Chronos Then from now, let us begin the graduation and graduation duel ceremony! First, I will announce the final result of graduation duel.
Students I wonder who's in the first place?
Chronos But I really don't want to announce this. If I do, the graduation ceremony whaaah~ I can't do it whaaaa~
Principal Samejima Professor Chronos.
Chronos I!! I don't want graduation ceremony to happen for dead cert! Let go! Let go, I say!
Principal Samejima Really... Then instead of him, I will announce it. This year's top student is, um? There are three. Tenjoin Asuka, Manjyome Jun and Marufuji Sho.
Students Congratulations / You're the best~
Principal Samejima But things get difficult here if that's the case. The prize, King of Duelist. Mutou Yugi's replica deck is only one.
Manjoume Then I'll pass it.
Sho Me too
Asuka I will too.
Principal Samejima Uh? But that's the strongest deck known in world.
Manjoume We realized. That the strongest deck to one is the deck they endear at most.
Asuka That's right. It has to be our own decks.
Sho The ones with our memories...
Principal Samejima Very well then. Then now, we will continue graduation ceremony. Current student representative, Tyranno Kenzan. I ask you a farewell speech.
Kenzan Yes!

Kenzan is collapsing on a student seat. When Principal Samejima calls him, he quickly stands up but looks awkward. People begin to laugh after seeing his act. Kenzan looks obviously nervous on the stage. He is trying to take a deep breath and unfold a paper roll in order to start a speech. The roll is unfolded so much that it falls onto the floor and rolls on. Principal Samejima smiles and tells Kenzan to calm down.

Kenzan takes the paper roll back and begins the farewell speech to his seniors. Once he starts saying, he begins to weep. For time long, the students have owed a lot to the graduates and would like to pay back. Like Professor Chronos, Kenzan can't continue the speech and keeps crying loudly. Teacher Kabayama, Teacher Ayukawa, and Tome have to drag him out. Sho sees that Kenzan finally couldn't leave the stage properly.

Principal Samejima continues the graduation ceremony by the graduate' speech of Asuka. Asuka steps onto the stage, looks at people around, and starts her last speech. First, she thanks everyone for preparing this graduation ceremony. Time has passed very fast. 3 years ago, they just knocked the door of this school by their own dreams in hearts. At Duel Academia, they met many friends and teachers, learning through many duels. They spent time together, fought, and encouraged one another. Dueling with people really taught her strength, weakness, and concern for the others.

As Asuka is saying, she is reminding herself of experience during the past 3 years. Some students in the hall begin to weep by her emotional speech. Asuka continues that, from now on, they will move forward to different roads. Although they don't live together, they are always friends. The bond that connects duelists here will last forever. A lot of trouble and joy may be waiting in the future. Whenever they encounter it, they will remember life and friends here.

Asuka believes that life and friends at Duel Academia will guide them to appropriate directions. She leaves her last message by saying farewell and thanking everybody. Nobody can stop crying after listening to this speech. Fubuki, Manjoume, Sho, and Teacher Ayukawa all cry. Asuka spoke well as a future teacher of Duel Academia. She is the only one who can finish her speech in this ceremony. Only Judai is smiling and thinking about the farewell to Duel Academia that Asuka has just said.

Principal Samejima You better calm down...
Kenzan All right... Graduates. I give you my deepest congratulation. Looking back, we owed a lot to you graduates... That obligation... how should one repay-saur... We thank you-saur.... Whaaaa~~
Principal Samejima Kenzan-kun...
Kenzan I congratulate your graduatio....whaaaa~
Manjoume But...
Sho He did not even get to exit the stage properly...
Principal Samejima Next, graduates representative Tenjoin Asuka will give answering speech.
Asuka

Yes. For preparing this grand graduation for us graduates, I give you my deepest thanks. Time flew fast, three years ago... each of us knocked the door of this Academy with our own dreams in our hearts. And In this Duel Academia, we met many friends, teachers, and learned numerous things through duels. Companions who spent long time together, sometimes fighting, encouraging each other. Duels with you all taught me my strength, weakness, and concerns for the others. Though we may walk towards our own separate roads from now on. Though we may live far apart from each other, we're companions always. The bond that connects duelists here will last forever. Many troubles and happiness may await us in the future. Whenever we encounter them, we will remember...the life here...and companions here. I believe that those will guide us our directions we should head toward. Thank you, everyone. Thank you, Duel Academia. And... farewell.

Judai Goodbye...?

Next, Principal Samejima calls graduates one by one to receive a certificate and congratulates them individually. He goes on by Asuka, Fubuki, Manjoume, Sho, and Judai respectively. Here is the end of the graduation ceremony.

At night, the graduation party party has started with fireworks at the main hall of Obelisk Blue. It's the last night for all graduates. Sho is holding a plate of food in hand and looking around while Kenzan is enjoying eating some chicken legs on a dinner table. Kenzan says that if Sho doesn't hurry to eat, there will be nothing left. Sho is afraid that this is the last graduation time, but Kenzan hasn't seemed to express anything memorable things yet. Kenzan thinks that there has already been enough appreciation, so he enjoys eating.

Manjoume then walks into Sho and asks whether he sees Asuka anywhere. Sho is afraid that he hasn't seen her, either. Suddenly, people begin to make exciting sound after seeing Fubuki and Asuka appearing in prince and princess costumes. Fubuki is holding Asuka's hand to take up down along the stairs. Junko and Momoe are very excited by Fubuki's prince look. Similarly, Manjoume and Sho are very impressed by Asuka's beauty on her princess dress. Asuka tells her brother that she is shy. Fubuki tells her that she should be fine because this is supposed to be the last night.

Principal Samejima then makes an announcement to the students that tonight is their last night at Duel Academia. Thus, he expects everybody to have such a good time and chat with friends, rising up his glass and toasting. Everyone then toasts together and says "Kampai!" (Toast!).

After that, Professor Chronos looks upset and sits at a stair, having been surrounded by Rei, Kenzan, Asuka, Sho, Fubuki, and Manjoume. He realizes that his students have finally graduated. Sho doubts whether Professor Chronos still talks about this. Kenzan tries to comfort his teacher that as long as he remains, there will be no worry for his teacher. Professor Chronos is afraid that it may be just troublesome, and people begin to laugh.

Nearby, O'Brien and Johan are standing and joining the party. Manjoume asks why they are not with graduation ceremony at their own schools. Johan and O'Brien respond that their school's graduation ceremonies are different, so they think to come and watch over the graduation ceremony here. Manjoume thinks that they just talk big. Fujiwara then walks in and joins the group. He congratulates everyone for graduation. Fubuki asks with concern whether Fujiwara feels well now.

Fujiwara is fine, apologizing everyone for any trouble he caused. In the period he was at the school, he did many bad things that couldn't be forgiven. Fubuki doubts what Fujiwara is talking about. This school is also Fujiwara's place where takes growth and mistake of all students. Meanwhile, at the upper level, Principal Samejima is standing along with 3 guests, Saiou, Mizuchi, and Chairman Kagemaru. They are watching over people especially Fujiwara. Fubuki lastly tells Fujiwara that here is what Duel Academia is. Thus, everything Fujiwara did should have already been forgiven. Fujiwara really appreciates everyone's feeling, bowing and thanking everyone by his shaking sound.

By the way, Kenzan doubts where Judai has been. Rei looks worried and isn't sure whether Judai will be late again. Manjoume thinks that Judai has been an irresponsible person since the beginning till the end. Asuka obviously looks concerned about Judai at this moment. There is possibility that he won't come to the party at all.

At Osiris Red dorm, Judai is packing up his belongings alone in his room. The spirit of Teacher Daitokuji is watching over him from the upper bed. He realizes that Judai is going to leave now. Judai just replies shortly that his turn has already ended. Teacher Daitokuji asks Judai directly what he intends to do from now on. Judai explains that he has power that can connect spirits and people. There may be some people who need this power in the world. Thus, Judai plans to have a journey in order to look for those people. As he is saying, the spirit of Yubel appears on the ceiling. She certainly will follow everywhere Judai is heading to. If that is what Judai intends to do, Teacher Daitokuji is afraid that they will never meet again.

Outside the Obelisk Blue dorm, Asuka is leaving the party and standing alone near the lake. As she is smiling and looking forward, O'Brien and Johan walk out to join her. Johan says that Judai may be the one who has changed at most. O'Brien comments that people must change one day. That's what a person grows up an adult. Johan doubts whether Judai has left already. O'Brien thinks that Judai may have already because he is a type of person sitting around and doing nothing.

Asuka tells them that Judai is always that kind of person. He is like a tornado that appears and quickly disappears like a ghost. Their youth has already gone. While Asuka is talking, she is weeping. Her tears are flying along blowing wind. All of them believe that they will certainly meet one another again.

Teacher Daitokuji Are you going now?
Judai Yes. Now my turn has ended.
Teacher Daitokuji What are you going to do from now on?
Judai We have power to connect spirits and people. Somewhere in this world, there might be people who need it. We'll have to travel around to look for them.
Teacher Daitokuji Then, we never might be able to meet you again.
Johan It might be Judai who changed the most past one year.
O'Brien People change one day. That's what becoming an adult is.
Johan I wonder if Judai left already?
O'Brien He's the one who doesn't like sitting around.
Asuka But that's what Judai is like. Always like a tornado that appears and disappears like a ghost, our youth has gone away.
Johan But again,
O'Brien We'll meet for sure.
Asuka Yes... for sure.

Judai has already finished packing up. He walks to Duel Academia and bows to it for the last time. As he is about to leave, the spirit of Winged Kuriboh appears and guides him to follow it into the school. Judai runs off and follows Winged Kuriboh into the school exhibition hall. He realizes that here is where Mutou Yugi's replica deck is featured.

Then, a man in shadow appears and calls for Judai. He has waited for him. There is no doubt that this man is truly Mutou Yugi. Although light is too dark to see his face, Yugi is calling Judai by his own voice. Judai is looking very surprised to see him here. Yugi asks whether they should start their true graduation duel now.

Judai Winged Kuriboh...this is where Yugi-san's deck is being featured, the...
Yugi I've been waiting for you, Judai Yuki-kun!
Judai You're...!
Yugi Shall we begin? Our real graduation duel~

summary - second period
episode 179 summarized by Janime

Judai looks confused by what Yugi means by the true graduation duel. Yugi explains that he gave Judai a card 3 years ago in order to test whether Judai would be able to develop himself into a suitable duelist to possess it. Judai places down his belonging and takes out deck. The card Yugi is talking about is Winged Kuriboh. His life started at the school 3 years ago when he got this card from Yugi (episode 1).

Yugi realizes that Judai has become much stronger for the past 3 years and even overcome ordeals to become a reliable adult. However, for that purpose, there is something Judai has lost. Judai doubts what Yugi is talking is. Yugi explains that it was something important, but Judai hasn't been aware. He thinks that Judai must take it back.

Yugi tells Judai to hold Winged Kuriboh card over his replica deck displayed in the middle of the main hall. If Judai does so, the card will guide him to an opponent who can take back what Judai has lost and who is the strongest duelist. Judai is certain whether Yugi means the strongest duelist besides Yugi himself. Yugi tells Judai to trust him. Judai will know it once he does it. Judai smiles and certainly complies to following Yugi's guide. He walks into the display and takes out Winged Kuriboh card. Suddenly, his card and Yugi's cards inside the display glass begin to glow brightly, bringing him to a duel place.

Judai Our true graduation duel?
Yugi Yes, the card that I gave you three years ago...I was testing whether you've developed into a duelist suitable enough to possess it.
Judai (That's right...My life at the academy all began three years ago, ever since I was given this card)
Yugi You've gotten very strong over the past three years, and you've overcome many ordeals to mature into a reliable adult. However, there's not without something you've lost to do so.
Judai Something I've lost?
Yugi Yes, something important that you yourself haven't noticed...You must go out and retrieve it. Now, Judai-kun, hold the Winged Kuriboh card over that deck. If you do, the opponent who'll allow you to retrieve what it is you lost....the mightiest of all duelists is who that card will guide you to...
Judai The mightiest of all duelists? One besides you?
Yugi You'll know once you set out...Trust me.
Judai Yes, sir!

When Judai opens his eyes, he appear to be in Domino City and in front of Yugi's house, a game store. There is an ad paper flying to his feet, so Judai picks it up and reads it. It's a page of a newspaper from Duel Sports. It states the victory of Mutou Yugi over V2 of Battle City. This statement makes Judai wondering who many years back he is now. Surroundings don't look as if they have changed very much, so he is not sure about the period.

Duel Sports:

"He Made it Through V2 of Battle City, Mutou Yugi-kun Wins it All!"

Note: This statement refers that Judai is going to the past when Mutou Yugi won the version 2 of Battle City. Nothing mentions when this version 2 of Battle took place. We just know that it's sometime in the past, and it isn't related to the original series that doesn't have V2 Battle City.

Meanwhile, Yugi is leaving his house and saying goodbye to his grandpa. Yugi accidentally hits Judai and quickly apologizes him. Judai thinks that he should be the one to say so. As turning back, he is surprised by seeing Yugi here. Yugi wonders whether Judai knows him. Judai certainly knows the strongest duelist. He picks up Winged Kuriboh, shows it to Yugi, and tells him that he got this card from him, and it actually guided him here.

Yugi looks confused as if he has never given anything. He takes out his Kuriboh card and realizes that they look alike. Nevertheless, he doesn't remember that he gave Winged Kuriboh card to Judai. At this moment, Yugi smiles and asks whether Judai has come here to duel him. He says that he had dream yesterday. In his dream, Kuriboh told him that there would be a duelist appearing and he had to duel that person.

Yugi understands that Judai is the duelist Kuriboh was talking about last night. Judai says no more. He has already realized that Yugi is the strongest duelist Winged Kuriboh guided him to. He bows to Yugi for this duel. Yugi nods his head as agreeing to duel him.

Both of them move to the downtown area, the clock tower where is the beginning of Battle City. Yugi is surprised by that he sees nobody in the city today. Judai notices that time on the clock tower doesn't move on. This makes him happy to think that this may be a special space only for him and Yugi. Both of them come to the middle and switch shuffling decks. When Judai is about to shuffle Yugi's deck, by Yubel's orange-green eyes, he notices blue, red, and yellow aura coming from the deck. While Yugi is shuffling Judai's deck, he says that he can feel something weird from Judai and hint the smell of a duelist watching him from somewhere. Judai doesn't respond as smiling and shuffling Yugi's deck gently.

Both of them take their decks back and walk off to their positions. While Judai is walking, the spirit of Yubel appears near him. She admires Mutou Yugi as a true king of duelists because he is able to sense her existence. Judai agrees with her. Yubel notes that a problem should remain in Yugi's deck. Judai understands what Yubel wants to say because he can also feel it, an extraordinary energy from Yugi's deck. The power of the three legendary gods reside in that deck. That's why Judai previously saw the 3-color aura coming from his deck by the power of Yubel.

Judai and Yugi walk to their positions in the opposite sides and confront each other. By this aura, Judai is certain that the guy currently standing in front of him is truly Mutou Yugi who holds the successively ultimate deck. Yugi stands by his duel, and there appears his fighting spirit in blue flame. Judai can see it and look slightly nervous. Yubel asks whether Judai is scared. Judai tells her not to kid him, standing by his duel. His fighting spirit burns in red flame in response. If he faces the strongest deck and duelist like this but his heart doesn't burn, he is merely a fake duelist. This battle is actually his true graduation duel. Then, both of them declare to start a duel.

The first turn is with Judai. He draws a card and gets Polymerization. The cards on the other hand are Negate Attack, Neos Force, E-Featherman, E-Hero Neos, and E-Hero Burst Lady. Judai moves by playing Polymerization to fuse E-Hero Featherman and E-Hero Burst Lady on his hand into [E-Hero Flame Wingman - 6/2100/1200: This monster cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon. When this card destroys a monster and sends it to the Graveyard as a result of battle, inflict damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster]. Setting up a face-down card, he ends his turn.

Yugi is very amazed by seeing E-Hero monsters that he has never seen before. Judai introduces Yugi that his deck is named E-Hero deck. Yugi looks excited to see a duelist using such a deck. The turn comes to him. Drawing a card, he gets Black Magician. The cards on the other hand are Holy Elf, Magical Dimension, Meddling Elf Warrior, Holy Barrier - Mirror Force, and Shift Change.

Yugi first moves by summoning [Holy Elf - 4/800/2000] onto the field in attack position. Next, he plays [Dimension Magic - Quick Play Spell: You can only activate this while there is a face-up Spellcaster-Typer monster(s) on you side of the field. Tribute 1 monster on you side of the field and Special Summon 1 Spellcaster-Type monster from your hand. Then you can destroy 1 monster on the field].

According to its effect, when he has a spellcaster monster on the field, he can sacrifice it to special summon a spellcaster monster from his hand. Holy Elf is a spellcaster monster, so Yugi sacrifices it to special summon [Black Magician - 7/2500/2100] from his hand onto the field in attack position. Judai gets very excited to see true Black Magician in front of him.

In addition to the effect of Dimension Magic, one monster on Judai's field must be destroyed. Thus, E-Hero Flame Wingman is destroyed accordingly. Yubel gets mad and tells Judai that he is stupid to admire Black Magician. Judai says that he has already understood well. Yugi claims that his attack still remains. In his battle phase, he declares the attack of Black Magician towards Judai directly.

At this moment, Judai opens his face-down trap card [Negate Attack ~ Kougeki No Muryoku Ka - Counter Trap: When your opponent attacks with a monster, negate the attack and make your opponent's Battle Phase end]. This card negates the attack of Black Magician and ends Yugi's battle phase immediately. Judai feels that it's so close. Setting up 2 face-down cards, Yugi ends his turn. He's impressed by that Judai could bear his attack.

Judai looks serious but gets impressed by Yugi's play at the same time. It's just the second turn, and Yugi doesn't take it easy but keeps approaching and attacking. Without Negate Attack, Judai would have received large damage already. He can feel self confidence that doesn't shake and fighting spirit kept inside Yugi. As he has thought, Yugi isn't an incomplete piece but is actually a strong guy.

The turn comes back to Judai. He draws a card and summons [E-Hero Bubbleman - 4/800/1200: If this is the only card in your hand, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. When this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or Special Summoned successfully, if there are no other cards on your side of the field and in your hand, you can draw 2 cards from your Deck] onto the field in defense position. When it is the only card on his field, he is allowed to draw 2 more cards. Setting 3 face-down cards, Judai ends his turn.

Yugi calls for his turn. He draws a card and summons [Meddling Elf Warrior ~ Honrou Suru Elf No Kenshi - 4/1400/1200: This card cannot be destroyed in a battle with Monsters with an ATK of 1900 points or higher (damage calculations apply normally)] onto the field in attack position. Yugi next plays [Thousand Knives - Equipment Spell: You can only activate this card when you have a face-up Dark Magician on your side of the field. Destroy 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field] with Black Magician.

Thousand Knives has to be played only with Black Magician, and it can destroy a monster on Judai's field. Thus, E-Hero Bubbleman is destroyed. By this, Judai no longer has a monster. Yugi takes this chance to declare the attack of Black Magician towards Judai directly. At this timing, Judai quickly opens his face-down trap card [A Hero Emerges ~ Hero Kensan - Trap: When your opponent declares an attack, he/she randomly selects 1 card from your hand. If it is a Monster Card, Special Summon it on your side of the field. If not, send it to the Graveyard].

According to its effect, Yugi has to choose a card randomly on Judai's hands. If it is a monster card, Judai can special summon it onto the field. Judai has only 1 card on his hand, so Yugi doesn't have to select a card. He can automatically special summon it, [E-Hero Neos - 7/2500/2000], onto the field in attack position. Because Judai has a monster on his field now, E-Hero Neos becomes Black Magician's attack target. Both of them have the same 2500 attack points, so the attack of Black Magician is stopped.

Yugi understands that E-Hero Neos is Judai's ace card. Judai says that if a symbol of Yugi's deck is Black Magician, a symbol of his deck is E-Hero Neos. He declares loudly that the true game will be from now on. Yugi accepts his challenge and tells him to bring it on.

to be continued...
