episode 108 summarized by Janime/Horoko

Principal Samejima is describing the previous duel between Yuki Judai and Johan Anderson, a new miracle student who could see monster spirits as Judai could. The game ended by the defeat of Johan, and a reason was that Johan couldn't summon his ultimate monster, Rainbow Dragon which hadn't been placed in his deck. Anyway, both of them got along well and became good friends after that.

At a night at Osiris Red dorm, a mysterious guy is looking through Judai's room at the door. Inside the room, Johan is dumping a bag of card packs that he bought onto the floor. He tells Judai to take a look at them together. Judai agrees. He always gets excited when he opens a new pack. Both Johan and Judai begin to open the card packs. Judai gets excited when he gets a rare card. Johan tells him that he also gets some. Meanwhile, Pharaoh laying on the ceiling is hissing at the door as the spirit of Ruby appears on Johan's shoulder. Johan asks Ruby whether there is something wrong. The spirit of Winged Kuriboh also appears and points Judai to the door. Judai realizes that someone is behind the door of his room, so he hurries to get out and sees a guy running away in darkness. He decides to run after quickly, following by Johan.

On the oceanside cliff of the same night, O'Brien is hanging himself upside down like a bat on a rope tied around his ankle and a buzzsaw device attached to a branch of a tree and sawing the rope. He looks very calm as reminding himself of when he was walking through the jungle with his father. O'Brien was walking in the front as his father told his son to stop moving. O'Brien's father taught his son to always think of a battlefield at the front wherever he went. They had to perceive surroundings by sharpening the five senses.

Finishing the words, His father broke through grass and there appeared a trap linking to a bomb. O'Brien looked very surprised. It he had gone farther without the stop from his father, he might have stepped onto the trap. His father said that if O'Brien couldn't do that, he would be dead.

O'Brien is closing his eyes as trusting in his father's words. He then opens his eyes and says that he has seen it. The card that he is going to draw is a level-one monster card. He says confidently before drawing a card. It appears Volcanic Bullet, a level-one monster, as O'Brien addressed. Then, he began to swing himself to go back onto the cliff when the buzzsaw device was about to cut the rope. Once the rope was cut off, he jumped and landed safely. Duel Academia is now supposed to be the battlefield for him.

Note: O'Brein was taken in by Professor Cobra. O'Brein's father was a mercenary. O'Brein and O'Brein's father call each other [my son] and [daddy] respectively.

Looking up, O'Brien notices a guy in shadow running pass the forest in front of him. It's too dark for him to recognize who there is. Judai and Johan were running after that mysterious guy, spotting O'Brien at the cliff. Judai is misunderstanding that O'Brien was the guy peeping through his room. O'Brien doesn't reply, but looks at them with serious face. Judai and Johan walk into him. Judai says that he doesn't understand if O'Brien becomes quiet like this. Johan tells Judai that the guy whom they are running after isn't O'Brien. He looks at the buzzsaw on the tree and seems to realize what O'Brien was previously doing. Johan says that he has heard that there is a duelist having the training attached to life at West School. The condition is that one will die if he is defeated. Judai becomes surprised before turning back to that duelist now standing in front of him.

That sounds to be useful for Judai. He feels that he would like to try fighting this guy. O'Brien tells him that it isn't the play for a kid. Judai argues madly what's bad about being a kid who wants to play. Johan places his hand on Judai's shoulder to stop the dispute. It's bad that they got the wrong person, so both of them felt sorry to O'Brien. O'Brien didn't care, turned back, and walked away to keep his buzzsaw device on the tree. Judai thinks that O'Brien has such scary eyes. Johan tells him that O'Brien is called a right man of Professor Cobra. Nobody knows what he is thinking. Judai turns to asks what Johan means by that as Johan is getting of explaining.

Note: Johan says "Futokorogatana" that means "one's right hand" or "right hand man" or "confidant". It can also mean "a dagger". It's possible that Judai can't follow by what Johan actually wants to interpret or mean.

At Blue dorm, Professor Cobra doesn't seem to have a nice sleep. There is the sound of a boy keeping on calling him "Dad!". Professor Cobra still asleep hands over and tells to boy to wait for him. There appears swirling darkness following by the mysterious sound saying, "Power! For me! The power of the battles among duelists! If you do that so,...". The voice is gone as Professor Cobra gets up, sweats, and takes a breath heavily. He walks to the table where a Dis-Belt is on, picking it up. He looks at it and then chuckles.

In the next morning, the students are standing in front of the stage where Professor Cobra is going to give a speech. Professor Cobra begins to call the students for attention. A Ra Yellow student is turning his face away, so Rei calls his attention back to Professor Cobra. Professor Cobra says that today he has something to give to the students, showing a wristbelt called [Dis-Belt] for Disclosure Duels. It's the same wristbelt that Judai and Johan had got before their exhibition duel. Professor Cobra explains that Disclosure Duels are the skill disclosure system for open duels regardless of dorms or grades. Professor Chronos is concerned by that the third year Blue students should win by this system due to the highest competency. Napoleon notes that it's easy bullying the weak.

Professor Cobra further says that this Dis-Belts collect duel data to the center for level examination. Fighting spirit based on passion, concentration, and decisions in a duel are all measured. This is the obligation for the elites of Duel Academia to improve fighting spirit. Napoleon then asks a good question what happens if the result shows that a student doesn't have fighting spirit. Professor Cobra replies coldly that the student will be degraded from the current dorm. Also, if he later doesn't show any motivation, he will depart from the school. All students are very surprised by such unexpected consequence.

Professor Chronos and Napoleon run into Principal Samejima quickly. Professor Chronos thinks that Professor Cobra is overdoing. Professor Cobra convinces that there's no need for those who duel without a passionate heart staying in school. Professor Chronos tells Principal Samejima that Professor Cobra is overdoing although he is just a temp professor. Thus, he wants Principal Samejima to say something about this. Napoleon agrees because it doesn't sound reasonable to him, either.

Prof. Cobra

Students of the school, attention.

Rei Hey you, pay attention to Professor Cobra.
Prof. Cobra I have a present for everyone today. This is the "Dis-Belt" for the Disclosure Duels!
Judai Disclosure Duels?
Johan Dis-Belt?
Prof. Cobra Disclosure Duels, also known as, the Skill Disclosure System. It's a system in which conducts duels openly regardless of the color of your dorm or the grade you're in.
Chronos If you do that then the third year Blues will win.
Napoleon Yes, it's easy bulling.
Prof. Cobra And so, the Dis-Belts are needed. Duel data is sent directly from this belt to the center and its level is examined. The device measures fighting spirit based on passion, concentration, and decisions in a duel.
Judai Hehhh!
Prof. Cobra It is your obligation as the elites of the Duel Academia to prove you have fighting spirit.
Napoleon But what if the Dis-Belt concludes they have no fighting spirit?
Prof. Cobra Then they'll be demoted from their dorms at once, then, if there are no sign of willingness, they'll leave the academia!
Chronos You are overdoing!
Prof. Cobra There's no need for those who duel without a passionate heart being in school!

Surprisingly, Principal Samejima responds with smile that there is some truth in Professor Cobra's words. Real Dis-Duel at West School makes lives freshened. Meanwhile, Judai looks very excited. If it's about passionate heart, he strongly believes that he doesn't lose to anyone. Johan sees Judai very optimistic while Judai is glad to that compliment. Principle Samejima looks at Judai enjoy talking with Johan and thinks that Judai hasn't realized yet how strict this battle is. It seems that Principle Samejima knows pretty well how this Disclosure duel will be. He accepts that Judai gets stronger; nevertheless, that makes Judai be nothing than a kid protected by pram called Academia. As a whole, Principle Samejima believes that a young man like Judai can grow up through tough experience and become a truely strong person.

Kenzan sees Sho looking scared from his face, asking what's wrong with him. Sho replies that he is getting anxious to whether he will be able to have a chance to create passionate heart. Manjyome then steps in and says that just winning is enough. If Sho just becomes a winner like him, Manjyome believes that there will be no problem. Kenzan is sick of arguing Manjyome's confidence because not everybody is like him. Thus, he agrees without saying further words.

After the meeting, there is the repeat of the official announcement for the opening of Disclosure Duel through speakers, telling the students to put on Dis-Belts. Amon is walking out with Jim. He looks at his Dis-Belt and says in French "Cogito Ergo Sum". Jim wonders what it is, so Amon repeats by the interpretation "I think, therefore I am". To compare, for Amon's reason, the duel merely with passionate battle has no meaning. Rather, it's the game with philosophical thought.

Note: [Cogito Ergo Sum] is a philosophical statement or argument of by René Descartes, the French philosopher during 1596-1650. It means directly "I think therefore I am ~ Wareomou (kangaeru), Yueni Wareari". René Descartes is considered the father of modern philosophy. He was the first scientist-philosopher to organize the process of thought and link it to the meaning of one's existence. This shows that Amon is such a philosophical guy as well. For Jim, he doesn't seem to understand and respond to Amon at all. He just says that as long as he has his crocodile, he can take an afternoon nap everywhere while tapping his crocodile on his back. Thus, the crocodile blinked repeatedly.

Both of them are walking pass the courtyard in front of the school as Sho is standing nearby. Kenzan steps in and sees that, as they are champions, they look so calm. After all, this condition to be fired if one is defeated is a survival duel that only the strong can survives. Sho always looks sad and anxious, so he leaves without saying anything. Kenzan wonders what's happening to him as looking Sho walking away.

Note: Kenzan says "Jyakuniku Kyoushoku" which means "The law of the jungle: The weak become the victim of the strong". This really makes Sho feel depressed because Sho thinks that he is the weak.

Sho is walking pass the forest as looking worried. He notices Judai walking with Johan in the front, so he hurries to run into him. He tells Judai that his goal, besides victory or defeat, is to respect the opponent by respect duel. However, he has to compete in Dis-Duel, protect this Blue uniform, and won't lose the title of his dear brother, Kaiser (Sho would like to keep the title of Kaiser in Obelisk Blue). Judai just says "Humm!" without any comment. Sho doubts whether that's what Judai could address. He asks, "Please say something! What should I do?".

Although it's Sho're request, Judai is afraid to say that he always thinks of nothing else but to have fun with duel. Sho expresses his worry that he may not be able to do a passionate-heart duel as Judai does. Judai just notes that he and Sho are different persons. Sho looks a bit disappointed. He had expected that Judai would have said something useful to him. Thus, Sho decides to run away with sad face. Johan can notice that Sho is losing his way, and he may need some advice from Judai. Judai smiles because he believes that Sho will be fine. Johan is surprised by that he hasn't expected Judai to be cold like this.

Meanwhile, Professor Cobra stops by at the cliff where O'Brien is hanging himself upside down for his training.

"Remember? For your soldier father, who took you wandering around in battlefield?", Professor Cobra asks.

O'Brien answers loudly, "Yes sir! Professor Cobra, it's you!".

If that's the case, Professor Cobra hopes that his words are an order. O'Brien confirms. Professor Cobra goes his first order that the opponent he would like O'Brien to begin with is Juki Judai. O'Brien accepts the command quickly without further words. Anyway, there is a condition Professor Cobra would like to add into this duel. O'Brien look a bit surprised.

"Make Judai play seriously! Make him pull out the entire potential power in his deck! Make him attack, attack, and attack! Just in case you are probably defeated, but Judai already rendered all of his power. That's the goal of this operation. Do you get it?", Professor Cobra mentions as O'Brien is looking confused.

O'Brien reminds himself of what his dad used to say, "Good? My son? We, as a soldier, is a gear. For operation, we must be content to accept dangerous duty". He smiles before saying "Yes, Sir!" at the last time to respond to both his dad and Professor Cobra.

episode 108 summarized by Janime/Horoko

At Obelisk Blue dorm, Amon is opening a briefcase comtaining a high-tech detector device. He places his Dis-Belt onto the screen plate and uses an attached phone to a guy at a submarine in the ocean. He tells the guy in the submarine that he is going to send data of Dis-Belt to him. Dis-Belt is then scanned, and its data is transmitted. The guy tells Amon that it's during the investigation, and Amon shouldn't take his eyes off Professor Cobra during this time. Amon gets it before handing up the call and taking Dis-Belt up. He looks very worried about it.

Note: Again, Amon says in philosophical terms by mixing Japanese and French when he is making a call. "Cogito Yori" means "From Cogito or himself", and "Ergo Sum Mae" means "To Ergo Sum". As a whole, it should mean from I to somebody there, but Amon merely prefers talking by this philosophical way. See the interpretation about [Cogito Ergo Sum] above.

In the evening, Professor Cobra is walking through the forest, noticing someone following him. Anyway, he thinks that he may be wrong, so he keeps on walking. There actually a shadow of a guy going after him and currently hiding himself behind a tree. He approaches the ruined building, clicks open a hiden door in the wall, and walks in before the door is shut down. Meanwhile, the guy following Professor Cobra is actually Amon. Seeing Professor Cobra get into the secret door of the building, Amon checks the wall outside to find the open control. However, he finds nothing to let him open the door.

Inside the operation room, many devices develop significantly, and organic wires are now visible on the walls of the dark room. There is a lot of duel energy inside the plasma container. However, only one of them is in a big-yellow sphere. It's the duel energy coming from Judai's duel with Johan. Professor Cobra recalls that time. Judai's and Johan's fighting spirit burnt out, creating such amazing duel energy. Professor Cobra sees that he has got a lot of duel energy beside Judai's than expected. It's apparent that Judai's duel energy is much bigger than the others. For duel energy obsoprtion, Judai and O'Brien may become sacrifices. Professor Cobra notes as chucking.

That evening, Sho is walking alone while thinking that he can't depend on Judai. After all, it seems to be other issues for him. "I won't give a damn any more", Sho thinks. He tells himself that he will duel to the next student first appearing in front of him. Then, he stumbles across O'Brien standing on the tree. Although he would like to show his fighting spirit by doing what he said previously, he hesitates to duel O'Brien, West School Champ. Sho turns back and just realizes that he shouldn't run away like this. He tries to gain his fighting by telling to himself, "I am the guy who will become Kaiser Sho!".

Sho decides to confront O'Brien, calling him and challenging him into Dis-Duel. He says by trembling and uncertain sound. O'Brien looks at Sho and says that Sho had better not do that. Sho gets mad and says, "Don't be stupid! I am the younger brother of Kaiser Ryo!". O'Brien realizes that Sho means Hell Kaiser. Sho further says that he is also the most important brother of Judai.

Note: Sho says Judai's "Otoutobun" which means "A friend treated as younger brother".

This sentence really captures O'Brien's attention. It seems that he has thought of the way to duel Judai by forcing him to pull out his entire power. He has just got an idea (Capture Sho as a hostage to force Judai to play seriously). Sho feels that there is something wrong when O'Brien looks at him unfriendly. O'Brien then leaps from the tree and stands in front of Sho. He hands over Sho as Sho begins to scream.

At Osiris Red, Kenzan is looking at his cards in the room as Johan interrupts him and realizes that Kenzan's deck is a dinosaur deck. Johan would like to see it, but Kenzan doesn't want to. Johan tells him, "Don't say as if it's difficult! If you are Judai's follower, you are also my follower". Kenzan is afraid to say it isn't what he means. Later, Judai is entering the room and drying himself with a towel after having a bath. He suggests Johan and Kenzan having a bath as well. Johan refuses and says that he is fine. However, Kenzan says that he really wants to go now. It seems that he would like to get away from here so that he doesn't have to let Johan look at his cards.

Meanwhile, the spirit of Winged Kuriboh enters the room from the window, trying to tell Judai something. Johan asks Winged Kuriboh whether there is something wrong. Kenzan is surprised by that Johan can also see the spirit. Winged Kuriboh tells Judai that Sho is in trouble. Kenzan asks Judai what's wrong with Marufuji-Sempai. At the same time, the spirit of Ruby appears on Johan's shoulder. Johan asks Ruby whether it is true. Kenzan again wonders what Judai and Johan are seeing because he can't see any monster's spirit as they do. Judai throws his outfit and towel to Kenzan and tells him to take care it before running off quickly. When Kenzan gets out, he can no longer see Judai. Johan begins to run off, saying that he is going to follow Judai. Kenzan realizes that, so he returns Judai's cloths back to the room before going. Johan urges him to follow quickly.

Judai is running through the forest with Winged Kuriboh. He doesn't understand why that kind of thing is happening to Sho. He yells out loud for Sho to wait for him. He is coming right now. On the other side, Sho is tied up and hung from the tree over the cliff. He is opening his eyes as Judai is calling for him. Sho realizes that Judai has finally come for him. Judai says that it certainly is coming. Now confronting O'Brien, Judai asks what O'Brien intends to do with Sho. Sho yells that he's tied out and hung here without reason. Judai gets mad and tells O'Brien to leave Sho now.

O'Brien sees this should save his time. If Judai wants to save his brother (Otoutobun=Sho), he has to duel O'Brien. Judai is surprised and angry. He says that although O'Brien didn't go this, he would be okey to duel him at anytime. O'Brien disagrees and says that Judai always isn't good. Judai wonders what O'Brien means. O'Brien just wants to make Judai play seriously, and begins to activate the buzzsaw device hanging Sho with a rope. The buzzsaw starts to cut the rope while Sho gets frightened, calls Judai for help, and dances around.

O'Brien confirms that if Judai wants to save his brother, he has to defeat him and stop this buzzsaw divice. Otherwise, if Judai wants to play time, the rope will be cut off and Sho will finally fall down. Judai becomes much angry. He doesn't know what for O'Brien has to do this, but he accepts to approach into this duel. Meanwhile, Professor Cobra is watching them from a monitor equipped on a tree behind Judai. The game he has waited for is about to begin.

At the same time, Johan and Kenzan are running after Judai. Kenzan asks Johan for explanation for all of the sudden events. Judai quickly jumped off, and they decided to follow. However, Kenzan doesn't understand why Johan knows where Judai is. Johan doesn't answer. The fact is that the spirit of Ruby Carbuncle on his shoulder is telling him the direction to Judai. Both Kenzan and Johan finally leave the forest and arrive where Judai is going to start the duel with O'Brien. Judai sets up his deck into the duel disk and stands by it. O'Brien draws his gun-form duel disk from his belt and sets it up quickly. Then, the duel begins.

First turn comes to Judai. Drawing a card, he gets Elemental Mirage. The cards on the other hands are E-Hero Featherman, E-Hero Burst Lady, Polymerization, De-Fusion, and E-Hero. There is no doubt that he later plays Polymerization to fuse E-Hero Burst Lady and E-Hero Featherman into [E-Hero Flame Wingman - 6/2100/1200: This monster cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon. When this card destroys a monster and sends it to the Graveyard as a result of battle, inflice damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster] in attack position.

O'Brien sees Judai summon such a strong monster all of the sudden. He already saw it before, and this is E-Hero deck as he knows from the rumor. Judai tells Sho that he will break through this guy quickly to save him. Johan warns Judai not to be too burning to win the game. Kenzan gets worried about Sho and is about to move. O'Brien tells the watchers not move further, taking up his buzzsaw controller. If they move, he will cut the rope at the buzzsaw immediately. Sho gets scared and calls for both Judai and Kenzan. Kenzan gets angry and says that it's such a coward mean. Judai tells Kenzan to leave O'Brien on him, and he is taking care of this guy by himself.

Although Judai can summon the great monster, it can't attack in the first turn. Therefore, O'Brien believes that there are many ways to win and deal with it. Judai looks a bit mad before setting up two face-down cards and ends his turn.

O'Brien plans to play some tricks to let Judai show his own skill. Then, this mission he has got from Professor Cobra will be finished shortly. Professor Cobra is currently looking at Judai's duel energy, but there is nothing changed. The turn moves to O'Brien. Drawing a card, he plays the permanent spell card [Blaze Cannon - Permanent Spell: You can send 1 Pyro-Type monster with 500 or less ATK from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy 1 monster your opponent controls, but you cannot declare an attack during tis turn if you do].

By its effect, O'Brien can fill Blaze Cannon by a Fire-Type monster with fewer than 500 attack points as a bullet to destroy Judai's monster. He decides to use [Volcanic Bullet - 1/100/0: Once per turn, while this card is in the Graveyard, you can pay 500 Life Point to add 1 Volcanic Bullet from your Deck to your hand] on his hand as a bullet. Volcanic Bullet moves into Blaze Cannon before it is fired out to E-Hero Flame Wingman. At this moment, Judai opens his face-down spell card [De-Fusion ~ Yuugou Kaijyo - Quick Play spell: Split apart 1 Fusion Monster, its attack during this turn is negated], defusing E-Hero Flame Wingman into E-Hero Featherman and E-Hero Burst Lady to avoid the attack of Blaze Cannon (The object target, E-Hero Flame Wingman, is gone).

Johan and Kenzan think that it's so close. Seeing Judai defuse his fusion monster, O'Brien considers it such a common small fish (weak monster). Judai gets mad and argues that his E-Hero monsters aren't small fishes. O'Brien wonders whether Judai is right as activating the special effect of Volcanic Bullet. When this card was sent to the cemetery, he can place another Volcanic Bullet from his deck onto his hand by paying 500 LP. Thus, O'Brien's LP goes down to 3500 (4000-500).

Again, O'Brien fills this Volcanic Bullet into Blaze Cannon and fires it to destroy E-Hero Burst Lady. Setting up a card, O'Brien ends his turn. Judai is thinking, "That guy isn't summoning a monster? That Blaze Cannon seems to be a trouble". It seems that O'Brien doesn't hurry to play but tries to force Judai show up his entire power for greater duel energy.

to be continued...

Sho

Woaaah!! I'm falling, I'm falling! Save me, Big Bro!!

Judai "Blaze Cannon", "Fire Wall", "Crazy Fire"...He sure is particular about fire.
Sho Hey, wait! Don't forget about me! I'm falling!!
Judai Hang in there, Sho! O'Brien, you didn't have to do this, cause I'm always fired up! So, show me your all too!
Sho Next Time! [Judai and The Fiery O'Brien] Am I going to be staying like this until next time? Mamma mia!!
