anime digest - Season IV
Yu Gi Oh Duel Monster Generation Next (GX)

At the end of Season III, the truth was revealed that the universe was threatened by the wave of light and Judai was the chosen one with the power of kind darkness or Supreme King power to eliminate the light of ruin. He has the designated responsibility and a promise with Yubel to grow up to become an adult from a kid. That's the beginning of his new journey in Season IV.

[Character Development]

There is a lot of character development in this season. The students have grown up and found what's important to them. They become more independent and don't have to stay together all the time as they were. This can be seen through a lot of movement in this season: Kenzan returns to Yellow dorm and becomes an elite for his friends there, Asuka and Rei return to Girl Blue dorm, Manjoume and Sho move to Blue dorm. They all leave Judai alone in Red dorm, but this doesn't mean that people leave him behind. They just finally found what they want to do and what's important to their lives, so they don't have to stay with Judai all the time.

The third-grade students like Manjoume, Asuka, Sho, and Judai are in their final year at Duel Academia. They will graduate a year from now on, so they are going to develop themselves in this season for their future.

Momoe and Junko plan to be a teacher at Duel Academia Kid's school.

Asuka first plans to stay at Duel Academia as a researcher. However, she gets an offer from Principal Samejima to go and study aboard in a college in the north America. Asuka can't make at the decision from the beginning. However, Judai makes her understand what is really important to her. Her feeling to get stuck at Duel Academia doesn't make her grow up. It's just her deep feeling and relationship that pulls her to stay with the school. In order to grow up like Judai, Asuka accepts the offer to study aboard. She would like to confess her feeling to Judai but finally doesn't do so. Whatever she hopes is to see Judai smile as he did in the previous years and she has finally got it. It's the last and best gift for her.

Sho has moved from Osiris Red, Ra Yellow, and finally to the top rank of Obelisk Blue after his dear brother. Ryo asks and makes him think what Sho really wants to do or whether he just wants to keep watching over Judai's destiny forever as he declared in Season III. This may no longer be necessary. Ryo inherits Cyber Dark Dragon deck to Sho in this season, and Sho creates a new Cyberroid deck, the combination between Cyber Dark Dragon and Vehicleroid decks. This deck can eliminate some weakness in stand-alone Cyber Dark Dragon deck. Sho has already proved to surpass Ryo by using this deck defeat a Psycho-Style duelist from a Cyber-Style rival school.

Manjoume has a clear plan to be a pro without support from his Manjoume Group. It's such a tough road, so Chronos helps him be Edo's assistant so that he can learn how to be a pro from Edo. It's a very good experience for Manjoume. He has learns how a pro business is and how to improve and survive in this world. However, his good intention causes some trouble when he is set up to be an entertainer with a new brand name, OjaManjoume, rather than a duelist and even dragged into a dirty duel business. By a lot of help especially from Judai, Manjoume has a chance to prove his true strength by defeating the number one 1 pro like Edo in front of the public. This victory brings him a lot of call from various agents that want to become his sponsor. Manjoume finally opens his own road as a pro duelist by himself with his original brand name, Manjoume Thunder.

Judai has the destiny and promise with Yubel to grow up and become an adult from a kid. He has already been assigned to fight against the light of ruin and Trueman, an envoy of Darkness. Another person who has changed very much is Professor Chronos. He is promoted to Vice Principal position in place of Napoleon who leaves the school with his son, Martin. Chronos has developed himself very much since Season I when he was such a dump teacher who didn't know how to teach students but pushed responsibility to the others. Nevertheless, for 3 seasons, he has passed a lot of experience teaching him to be a good teacher. He is more sincere and concerned about his students. His reward is that the students trust him even more, pushing him into Vice Principal position. Similar to other students, Napoleon finds that Martin is important to him. Thus, he decides to leave the school with his son to live together again.

[New Threat in Season IV]

It isn't a coincidence for the revival of Kagemaru's Three Sacred Beasts in Season I, Saiou's activation of the wave of light in Season II, and Yubel's battle in the different world in Season III. All incidences have Duel Academia as a center point. Judai is fully related to all of these circumstances because he's the one who defeats those villains in each Season. The secret of all events and secret situation in the past are going to be revealed in this season.

The new threat starts with two parties. The first is a new unknown friend, [Fujiwara Yusuke], appearing in front of everyone who believes that he has been one of his or her friends for long. However, only Judai knows that something isn't right with Fujiwara who used to be Fubuki's closed friend and was supposed to die a long time ago. He can finally catch up the true identity of Fujiwara but still doesn't know his real purpose.

The second is the appearance of another mysterious guy, [Mr.T] or [Trueman]. He is known to be a messenger of Darkness. The incidence occurs when some cards of the students at Duel Academia don't work with duel disks by some reason. The cards are gathered and prepared to be investigated by the production, Industrial Illusions, but they are burnt by Fujiwara. Since then, the true identity of the burnt cards has appeared. The cards transform into black aura and form into the human body of Mr.T. who's trying to attack Fujiwara and Judai. His real purpose is still unknown but he seems to be related to a new disaster coming to the school.

[Darkness of Hearts]

It's actually the main villain of this series and also the concept of "Nothing": no victory, loss, winning, concern, or any worry. Darkness has been a mystery since Season I, and its story has been revealed and solved in this last season. Fujiwara is actually a close friend of Fubuki. He is interested in research of Darkness' existence. Then, he knows to way to meet Darkness. At the old blue dorm, Fubuki follows Fujiwara to the underground level and sees Fujiwara performing a ritual to go to the world of Darkness. Fujiwara has disappeared since then, leaving only Darkness' mask card for Fubuki. That's where Fubuki obtains the power of Darkness and uses it in Season I.

However, Fubuki's memory is erased. He can't remember anything even existence of his close friend, Fujiwara. After many years later, Fujiwara appears again but he is now different. When Fubuki remembers Fujiwara in this season, he thinks that Fujiwara was dead. The fact is that Fujiwara didn't die. He just has gone to the world of Darkness and obtained Darkness' power. It's the power to look through people's darkness of hearts and enhance it. Then, he can bring everybody to the world of Darkness along with him.

The world of Darkness is the world of nothing. There is no pain, sorrow, joy, winning, losing, victory, defeat, or any worry in this world. Everybody shares the same feeling and victory as Darkness receives all people's pain. Fujiwara wants to bring everyone in the world to the world of Darkness. In order to do so, he has to capture darkness in people's heart and enhance it. People don't go the the world of Darkness by themselves but by the lead of their own darkness. People's darkness forms into a card polluted by black aura. It can reside in any deck. Even Judai once falls into the trap. His Polymerization card is polluted, making him see Johan be Mr.T, whom he hates at most, and duel him.

Asuka's Darkness: Although Asuka decides to study aboard in order to return to Duel Academia as a teacher, she is still worried about her career as an instructor. She isn't confident whether she can teach the students about joy of duel. The students may not understand and just think about getting strong without reasons. Her concern becomes her darkness of heart, pulling her deep to the world of Darkness.

Sho's Darkness: Sho decides to follow Ryo to open a new pro league. It's his brother dream, and Sho would like to make it come true. Nevertheless, Sho is always concerned whether he can make it. When Ryo is weak (As he normally says, although he is called perfect, he has limit), Sho may have to act as a successor of Cyber Style. Sho is afraid that he can't make the new pro league successful. People may not be interested in this pro league, there may be few audiences, no sponsor or duelist is interested in it, and Sho may not be good enough to draw people's attention to it. If Ryo is gone, Sho will feel very relieved that he has finally been released from this chain. This worry clearly creates darkness of heart in his mind and brings him to the world of Darkness.

Manjoume's Darkness: Manjoume decides to go to the pro league by himself without support from his family. His concern remains in his strength and Ojama Yellow card. No matter what, Ojama is still a weak card. Manjoume is worried by that his future road in the pro league may not be successful. When he falls in crisis, he may not be able to survive by Ojama Yellow or any other card he has. Luck may not come to him at all until he is forced to cheat in a game and retire eventually. He even feels relieved if he is finally released from this suffer. His anxious becomes his darkness of heart and takes him to the world of Darkness.

O'Brien's Darkness: When O'Brien was young, he had a car accident with his parents. The car was burnt in flame. O'Brien was lucky when the car had blown him off before if flipped. However, his parents got stuck in the car and lost their consciousness. O'Brien had to choose whether to save his father or mother. As a young soldier, he decided to rescue his dad for his future survive. Although his dad could save his mother later, O'Brien felt guilty that he picked his father for his future sake. Even though his parents were saved from the car accident, O'Brien has felt worried for long. His dark thought is captured and pulls him to the world of Darkness finally.

Fubuki's Darkness: Even Fubuki has darkness. He always feels guilty that he couldn't save Fujiwara from the dark ritual he performed at the underground level of the world blue dorm. Fubuki considers Fujiwara his close friend and he should have dedicated himself to save Fujiwara at that time. His mistake unable to save Fujiwara becomes his darkness of heart. Fujiwara can catch it up during his duel against Fubuki. Fubuki intends to sacrifice himself and end the game together with Fujiwara. At least, he doesn't leave his friend alone again. However, Fujiwara doesn't think so. He takes this chance to look through Fubuki's darkness and sends him to the world of Darkness alone by defeating him.

Saiou's Darkness: Saiou is an exception. He approaches into a duel with Judai by himself in order to save Mizuchi captured by Darkness. Judai realizes that Saiou doesn't do this by Darkness' control but by his own will. Saiou's darkness forces himself to do this for his dear sister without any force from Darkness. After he loses to Judai in Season II, he has lost his ability to foresee future. Saiou is glad that he can then live like a normal human. Nobody no longer fears his special ability. However, this contradicts to his heart of duelist. Deep in his heart is the feeling that wants to get stronger. Thus, when Mizuchi is captured, Saiou returns to his evil mode by himself to beat Judai by any method.
